Máirín deBurca has lived a life shaped, but never governed, by external events. A key element of her personal life is the capacity to question and a willingness to switch tack if the answers she finds require it. This is the dynamic that roused her interest in the struggle for Ireland’s independence and then propelled her towards pacifism. It sparked her deep thirst for social justice, which eventually concluded in her exit from the world of politics.
Town of Strangers takes the audience on a journey in the company of outsiders making their home in Gort, a small town in the west of Ireland.
We Ourselves is an unconventional drama about isolation and belonging, about being alone with one’s own thoughts while being part of a shared experience, culture and nation. It takes us into the minds and hearts of a group of idealists and careerists as they take their separate paths in life. These people will tell you that they are the best of friends. They believe they are from the same country, yet in the privacy of a room, they are apart, alone and in a state of exile.
Twenty-three-year-old Una is pregnant – perhaps by immaculate conception? After visiting family in the country, she returns to Dublin determined to find a father for her unborn child. An experimental film that playfully alludes to women's experience in 1990s Ireland and to the changing status of the Catholic Church.
A documentary telling the story of rappers and singers in a working class estate on the northside of Dublin.
Natan tells the remarkable story of Bernard Natan, a Romanian immigrant who came to Paris in 1905 and was involved almost immediately with French cinema. He took control of the Pathe film group in the late 1920s and went on to produce epic films such as Les Miserables. But Natan has become largely written out of French film history for various different reasons. Little attention is paid to him centres on his alleged career as a pioneer and performer in early gay and BDSM porn? The story is an excellent one, suffice to say that his ethnicity and subsequent rumours plagued Natan almost from the start of his career. His ‘comeuppance’ for his alleged transgressions is at the heart of this devastating documentary.
Recently dumped by his girlfirend for another man, working in a job he hates, things could be better for Peter. One night, while he is alone in his apartment, there is a knock on the door. His life will never be the same again.
