During the 12th and 15th centuries, in Muslim Spain, many science books were written. When Muslims left Spain, many took their manuscripts with them. Today, one can find them spread in particular libraries, all along the caravan route through Morocco, Mauritania and Mali. From Toledo to Timbuktu, this documentary follows their traces. Its protagonist, Ismael Diadié Haidara, owner of the Andalus Library of Timbuktu, has spent years trying to retrieve his family's manuscripts and with them, his own Al Andalus past.
The Aid al-Adha is the largest annual Muslim religous holiday observed around the world. But do we really know its origins and its spiritual significance? From fantasies to word of mouth, controversy and false accusations, Farid DMS Debah leads us on the discovery of this holiday through an intiatory journey and educational narrative. Far from negative stereotypes this documentary reveals the reality of Aid al-Adha both a religous holiday and societal phenomenon.
The one-hour special uses the Quran as its main source, and draws on interviews with scholars and historians. It features commentary from Hamza Yusuf, who was filmed quite extensively for this documentary.
Beginning with a history of two thousand years of Jewish life in Morocco, the movie incorporates extensive archival footage, as well as interviews with: artists, scholars, journalists, merchants, workers, and artisans in Morocco, Israel, France, and Canada.
