‘Demimonde’ on the Bubble as Warner Bros. Discovery Puts Pressure on J.J. Abrams

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the budget for HBO’s Demimonde — which has been in the works since 2018 — is a source of contention as Abrams’ Bad Robot is eyeing a spend that’s north of $200 million. By comparison, the budget for HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is less than $200 million.

Bad Robot’s rich overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery is currently not in jeopardy though the lack of output has created a larger discussion about what the newly merged company expects to stem from the pact. Zaslav, sources say, was frustrated with the lack of delivery from the deal that was signed back in September 2019…

Sources say the DC Comics properties have also come under the spotlight. Sources suggest there is some frustration within the halls of Warner Bros. Discovery that Abrams has laid claim to a number of DC characters but has yet to get anything on the air. Sources note Warners has seen scripts for Constantine and the pilot of Madame X.

Meanwhile, the lack of delivery on content to HBO and HBO Max has created a pipeline issue for both the premium cable network and streamer, make it challenging to plan for budgets for things like marketing. There’s currently no delivery plan for any of Bad Robot’s multiple projects for WBD platforms or for third-party buyers. Abrams, it’s worth noting, is working on a new Star Trek movie for rival studio Paramount Global as the Warners pact was did not include exclusivity.

In a larger sense, Zaslav is putting all of the studio’s overall deals under the microscope as he looks to trim $3 billion from the newly merged Warner Bros.

Everybody knows that DJ and DG have Deadline on their beck and call. They planted that rumor to generate buzz. The ZS stans are the ones who believed it. They keep believing that every change or rumor means WBD will restore the ZS-verse. Even the cancellation of Batgirl means that they’ll restore the ZS-verse. lol

So DJ got butthurt and is trying to reverse the damage with a childish IG post about Hall H having 6,000 people. lol Every geek/nerd wants to be in Hall H. Even a film like Teen Wolf: The Movie can attract 6,500 fans in the 6,500-capacity Hall H. And it did that without using a trade/outlet to plant false rumor. lol

If I was DJ, I’d have moved BA to next year. There seem to be a lot of animosity between WBD and the audience right now. And with good reason. WB fired Johnny Depp, but they’re keeping Ezra Miller. And the sudden cancellation of Batgirl and the way it was done.

Wrong buzz. There’s no change in the "hierarchy" of the Top 10 Best Viewed Trailers In 24 Hours. BA is not on the list. A quick look at WB Pic and DC’s YT page and it got 14,563,182 and 633,724 in 6 days, respectively. Those numbers won’t cause any "disruption."

It looks like Super-Pets isn’t a success either.

The Direct: The release confirms that the Super-Pets movie will arrive "for Premium Digital Ownership at home on [Tuesday] August 23," with its Blu-ray and DVD release coming on October 4. The home release date comes less than a month after the movie was initially released in theaters, with its worldwide premiere date having arrived on July 29

I won’t be shocked if those two are paying outlets/YT’ers/Bloggers to keep saying stuff like… “I’m 95% sure SM is in BA”… or… “our trusted and proven sources say SM is in BA.” Now WBD*ck is letting outlets spread rumors that SM is in Flash too.

Exactly. I’ll just add that HC/SM fans have been asking for MOS2 for almost a decade. We got a headless SM cameo in Shazam… then… a shadow SM in TSS. No MOS2… but a whole new BM film.

Bringing SM in BA and BatFleck in AM2 means WBD will restore the Snyder-verse. Hello!!! JW’s Steppenwolf scene in the BA trailer isn’t replaced with a ZSJL scene. ZS’ influence ends with BvS. To WBD, ZSJL doesn’t exist.

BA is released three weeks before BlackP. Thor4 had more buzz and it had four weeks before Bullet Train was released and it still hasn’t made 3x its PB.

It’ll be interesting to see how many butts the biggest draw in the world will put in seats. I think BA will open #1, tho. It’s the first superhero film since Thor4 and the first big action film since Bullet Train.

Am I understanding this correctly? The power hierarchy won’t change anymore. BA was before heroes. So before JL. In that case, where was he when Zod & co tried to destroy Earth and change the hierarchy of power? Why would Amanda Waller send a team of pretty much powerless people (except El Diablo but he’s not a warlock) to fight a powerful witch? Amanda knows about BA, who’s basically a warlock, but she didn’t try to contact him or even mentioned him. lol Still, someone decided to include her in BA. Is WW84 all over. lol
