@Knixon: Please don't become a Canon Extremist before you've watched any episodes of Strange New Worlds.

I probably won't ever watch it, even if I do record or download it for others. But I'll be able to tell if it violates canon by what people say about it.

I probably won't watch it at all. Having an actor I like, in a show I'd hate, doesn't inspire me to watch it. If anything it sours my previous like of an actor, that they would do such a thing
I had only seen Anson for the first time in two episodes of Inhumans ...He never says a word and the story was utterly boring .. I had seen Jason Isaacs in one film and that's it . The rest of the cast in ST:Discovery and in Strange New Worlds are new to me.
Can I ask which actor or actress has disappointed you ? Maybe this person is not a fan of the series and its just a job that helps pay the bills.

It's not really about the actors so much as the writing/production. And the whole thing about "25% different" etc. I'm thinking that sour/curdled milk may be 25% or less different from good milk. For example.

Well ST:Discovery seemed more than 25% different ,at times I seemed not even STAR TREK at all.
Adding a new character, would that count as part of the "25% different "? or must the "25% different" go against canon ?

It seems they were allowed to use the same characters/names, as long as the characters themselves were "at least 25% different" somehow. I guess that means they could still call him James Kirk, but he couldn't have gotten the actual experience required to be a starship captain, so they put him in command of the Enterprise before having the decade-plus of previous experience (events recounted in TOS episodes such as "Obsession" and "A Private Little War") that made him actually qualified. Which may be the single biggest reason why the Jar Jar Abrams stuff was crap. And it extends into Discovery and Picard and the rest too.

Anson Mount was in a tv series on the cable network AMC called Hell On Wheels. It was on for 5 seasons. It was about a former Confederate Army Captain who after the war went out west to help build a railroad. Colm Meaney from Next Generation and Deep Space 9 and the rapper Common were also in it. I watched a few episodes and I both thought it was pretty good, especially when I discovered how handsome he was underneath all that hair and beard his character wore.

@sunshine62 : The reason Black Bolt, Anson Mount's character on Inhumans didn't talk was because he had the power to destroy things and even kill people by using his voice.

It's starting tonight! I am so excited! In one of the trailers they showed Pike in bed with a hot alien (well at least I least I THINK she was an alien) chick. Anson Mount half naked? I am SO there! 😍👽🖖

Oh, definitely not. He was kissing an hot alien chick in the same trailer (after deducting that it was the "logical thing to do").

I don’t understand.
I thought we were going to be enraptured by explorations of new worlds and intelligent life forms ..instead I read that we have Spock (and Pike ?)smooching already in the first episode .. so the producers want to hook viewers with sexy scenes?
And if it weren’t bad enough , I read today that there will be a 4 th Star Trek film with NuSpock and Co.

I haven't watched the episode yet (one of the nice things about streaming services is that you can watch the episodes at your convenience, not the channel's). The little bit I know about the first episode's plot is that Number One goes missing while on a mission for the Federation and Pike and Spock are sent to find her.
As for the smooching: I really, really hope that Pike and Spock weren't smooching EACH OTHER. If I can't smooch Anson Mount, neither can Ethan Peck.
I'm going to watch the episode right now, but first I need to mention 2 things: 1). Have you watched any episodes of the Paramount Plus tv series version of the computer game Halo yet? I've seen the first 4 episodes. I really enjoyed them. 2). Thank you for being a good friend to me during the 4 years I've been posting on the TMDb boards. Off to watch Strange New Worlds.

@sunshine62: BTW, thanks for the news about the upcoming Kelvin Timeline Trek movie. I adored Star Trek (2009), loved Star Trek Into Darkness (I'm a Cumberbabe), but was rather disappointed by Star Trek Beyond (especially since I'm a huge Idris Elba fan). Hopefully this new movie will be a lot better. One suggestion: they shouldn't let Simon Pegg within 1000 light-years of the story or script.
