Did you watch Talking Dead after the show? They were discussing the plans for Rick and how they're planning movies to continue his story. I'm curious to see how all that will go. I can understand how that would be easier for Andrew Lincoln, giving him more time to be with his family and whatnot.
Overall I really liked the episode. I'm glad it went the way it did and there is something in the works for Rick, rather than killing him out right. Seeing Hershel was bittersweet. The conversation with Shane was great.
Article I read left it open as to when these new stories would take place... in the fuiture or in the past. Won't see tonight's ep till later but I cannot imagine him leaving Judith behind...
I had this scenario in mind as well. I actually think it took away from the episode, which was great up until that point. It had me all choked up. The final rescue scene felt kind of cheap and predictable dramatically.

How can it be in the past..Ricks adventures busting moonshiners. Almost every minute of ricks life has been on the show.
IMO the movies will be made looking towards the final season of TWD where nRick will somehow show up for the final shows.
I did not realize this was (or would be) Andrew Lincoln's farewell show for the season while watching it (I found out just after). For me, the only thing that helped redeem this episode was Rick's departure from the group. Watching it in ignorance of this fact, I was frustrated with the dead/not dead trope after a commercial break. Of course, the twist helped, but overall the episode was a flop for me. I wasn't into the flashbacks, but counter-intuitively I liked the editing of the time jump. I thought that was cleaver.
So now we jump about 5-7 years into the future? Judith appears to be about nine and in previous time she was about two. No one else has changed much except for facial hair. And Negan still being locked up, well, if he really was bananas he must be bat s**t crazy by now (tho I think he played Maggie into not killing him).
Whatever, I mean... it's a TV show and a TV show will do what it needs to keep us watching.

I think 6 years time jump, heard someone associated with the show say that. I don't think Negan played Maggie. I think he was at rock bottom and was trying to goad her into killing him. Maybe the most real we've seen Negan. Maybe he gets better in 6 years.

I agree with you...I think the movies will build towards the series finale and it will all come back together. At least I hope that's what happens.
Well, the last ten minutes of the episode and the previews for the next three, at least kind of made me interested in the series again. And that's something...
Won't expect a FTW-crossover now, though.

I liked the scenes in the fast forward, especially little badass Judith Grimes. Didn't love Carol's new look.

Oh yeah. Seems like they thought "how can we get across, that some time has passed...? I got it! Give 'em all long hair/new haircuts!!" ;)

I took it as more of a message that things have been peaceful for a while. Warrior Carol is now hippy Carol.

My question, why is Rick a B?

I kind of figured since they kept showing Jadis and her arrangement that somehow Rick would be a part of that. I'm happy with that ending.

Spoiler Alert
My point exactly, predictable. I have mixed feelings. Not sorry Rick **spoiler** survived.
