Discuss Project Runway

Not a good start.

What I liked: The new workroom. The diversity of the contestants. The new female judge.

What is I didn't like:

Bland host. Bland mentor. The male judge, trying way too hard to be funny.

The fashion: A good, not great runway. I think I'd have gone with the other top look for the win.

Now to the worst of the worst: O M G they didn't send that blue bodysuit home. I get the feeling that it was because she is nice and nobody likes the WASP princess. Another decision like that and I may not continue.

Christian would make a better judge than mentor.

I don't know. All I see is him sitting there with no spark, and that's probably why they brought the accessory chick during the 3rd episode. Otherwise, she would have been introduced at the first episode.

I didn't like how Kovit's outfit bunched in the crotch area.

I am not a camper so I felt for the designers tonight. Christian should have been out there with them.

Speaking of him, OMG, going way too hands on again. That Marne person, seems like we are stuck with her, telling them which accessories to use, put a fork in it, woman. This whole thing is feeling like a vanity project for him.

The new judges are growing on me but still feel pretty c list compared to Kors, Posen, Misrahi.

Karlie's outfit was super cute. She may have potential to grow into the host role.

I thought the winning look was a bit literal. I would have gone with the Syrian. As for bottom, any of them could have gone. I would probably have sent the silver dress home.

Every few seasons they come up with a contestant like Koveed who is just too good for this world. He has to step up his work. I don't want him to go.

Overall, too many of the looks failed to incorporate the survival theme.

Bwah! Christian sounds like one of my bosses. The mere sound of his voice and phrases are so identical. Anyway, if I were a designer, I wouldn't want him out there with me. Nope.

I wasn't tied to the old judges. Plus, Misrahi was too partial at times, especially to Anthony Ryan.

I agree.

I was really sad that Afa was sent packing. Kovit or the silver dress but not my Afa.

sob

I don't mind. I'll help pack his bags. He's way out of his league and took a more talented designer's place. It's not like Afa would have gone home next week, and it wouldn't have mattered if he went home a week earlier.

Overall, too many of the looks failed to incorporate the survival theme.

Here was the requirement: In this unconventional materials challenge, they must create a high fashion look for outdoor conditions, using what they find in their environment.

Everyone got the first part: using found material in the environment

High Fashion: up for debate.

Renee's outfit was just as she called it -- too literal. The way the judges were just raving about it, made me think that I was losing my mind! There is no way that we were looking at the same garment. It's like she wrapped a tarp around her model, and hung camping gear on her. It was a hideous representation of fashion!! And even Renee knew it.

The judging was all over the place in this episode. And now I hate Kovid because of the obvious bias in favor of him.

Another rant: Some of the designers used a lot of material that was equivalent to fabric. I know in the past, designers were dinged for that. This time around, it wasn't even mentioned.

I'm not either. The rain and cold were too much. They could have at least had some heat lamps or fire pits, because it's hard to cut and sew when your hands are cold.

Tim would say make it work and let the designers figure things out. Marne is just another mentor called in at the last minute, because Christian is a cold fish. Let's face.

The best interpretation of the challenge:

Hester

Yup and yup. I just didn't see survival in several of the looks including Sunshine, who was in the top.

I love Koveed as a person, but not so much his work.

Ik,r?

Ok, somehow the comment I posted yesterday didn't post at all. Very Weird.

Neither my wife or I camp. (though I did when I was a boy scout. Hated every minute of it. My dad thought it would be good for me.)

Christian was entirely too smug about staying at the hotel.

I don't get the winning look. Its just a rain poncho with stuff hung on it. Pretty much any boy or girl scout camping in the rain would look like that. Personally we thought Hester had the best look.

We would have sent the silver thing home. We really like Kovid and are glad he's still around. But this look was a mess. Afa did not deserve to go. His look was nice and fit the challenge for a wilderness in the South Pacific. Nothing in the challenge description restricted them to northern US woodlands.

We do think there were two interpretations of the challenge. One was the classic unconventional materials challenge; use whats given to create a look. The other interpretation was create a fashionable look appropriate for "nature" or the "wilderness" We think the producers and judges were using the latter interpretation while some of the designers were using the former. We don't think the latter would lead to fashionable looks. Wilderness survival requires practicality, not fashion.

Oh, his "I'm an indoor cat" line was funny to me, but you just wait for the next episode. He opens a can of venom and feeds it to the designers, who decided to take a break to eat.

Here was the requirement straight from Bravo: In this unconventional materials challenge, they must create a high fashion look for outdoor conditions, using what they find in their environment.

When you consider the requirement, Rene deserved to win, even though it was basic and not pretty. What I don't get is how the judges were all floored by it.

I wish Afa would have said that when he explained his piece.

😘😘😘 Dapper Dan. Please keep him around instead of Marne.

Christian showed a little warmth this week, but again, too hands on with the designs. I think the bitching over eating break was there just to add drama.

I loved all the top looks as well as Hester's. Girl had me with Rococo Boxer.

I think Sebastian should have been bottom 3 instead of Rakan. I didn't hate Rakan's. Sebastian's looked like a bad Arabian Nights costume.

Jamal got very lucky. His fabric screamed southern cotillion to me and his dress was a mess. Why did he practically strangle his model with that neckline? Same thing happened to her in the print challenge.

Sad to see Koveed go, but it was time. Some people just don't thrive in competitive, high stress environments. I think he's one of them.
