Discuss Star Trek: Discovery

Its been 12 years since our last episode, maybe give it a break?... a chance? You lot keep jumping on the nearest band-wagon and get perfectly good shows cancelled. I enjoyed it, special effects and cast were great. Looking forward to the next episode, that's right, next episode, Star Trek has always been about individual stories and should be judged as a body of work.

You know what's ironic is that the guy in charge of CBS who green lit this series ,is the same guy who tried to f@ck-up ENT with silly and plain stupid ideas and demands that Berman & Braga so desperately had to fend off and is responsible for most of the elements in ENT that Trekkies objected to.It makes me wonder that if the ratings for STD are below expectations he will suggest to the producers of STD to have boy bands appear on the show to make show more appealing for teenage girls. laughing

"Many children with Asperger Syndrome will also argue when told that they are wrong even about seemingly insignificant things. Children with Asperger Syndrome seem to have a drive to be perfect and it is a blow to their self-esteem when they discover that they are not. The easiest way for them to avoid this blow is refuse to believe that they are wrong. Instead, they will argue endlessly to prove that they are right in spite of all evidence to the contrary. For example, my daughter loves to argue with her older brothers over information, even if after I have explained to her that she is incorrect. If her brothers or I attempt to show her the correct information in a book or on-line she will become more agitated and start to scream, all the while still insisting that she is right."

LMAO that describes knixon perfectly. Thank you for confirming my diagnosis.

You're welcome.

It will be too bad if Discovery doesn't make it and a show like The Orville does.

I am not pleased with ABC's attempt at separating viewers from their money in order to watch Discovery...especially when they can so easily boycott by watching another show that is so closely relatable to the franchise. Ridiculous in my opinion.

I'm actually really enjoying Orville. It may be a spoof, but there is good writing behind it. Making it, my go to selection over ST Discovery .

I think if it's factual...it's okay.

Factual? Hahahahahah, you kids.

CBS, not ABC. THAT is factual.

Did someone just post a comment? If it's who I think it is. So sorry to inform you that I haven't seen one of your comments in a really really really long time.

Bye now. Enjoy the rest of your day.

I never claimed that environmental protection wasn't a product of the free market I was talking about utilizing the full potential of it in a profitable and economical competitive fashion.Whether the technology was discovered by the US or not was not the subject utilizing and developing it for mass production is and clearly China has the lead in that field. The US still might be "the shining city on the hill" but without the US reforming it's industry it will be surpassed by China within a decade.

There are many reasons to dismiss this, the best might be the fact that "the experts" were so wrong about how much more industrialized etc the Soviet Union supposedly was compared to the US, errors which became quite clear when the Berlin Wall came down. Every indication is that similar predictions about China are just as wrong, and that China is a hollow tiger the same way the USSR was a hollow bear or something.

You can claim everything about US health care you want, but look at the facts below you'll find the rankings of the Best healthcare systems in the world (according the WHO),the US isn't even in the top 25 and of those 25 the vast majority have free general healthcare for everybody. As a matter of fact the US healthcare is only slightly better than that of Cuba. And no the majority of people around the world when given a free choice would gladly pay some extra tax for free healthcare.

http://thepatientfactor.com/canadian-health-care-information/world-health-organizations-ranking-of-the-worlds-health-systems/

So the WHO says so and so is better than whozits. The WHO can't claim to be The Standard for everyone... well they might CLAIM it, and you might claim it for them too, but they measure by certain things they think are valuable/more important than others and not everybody agrees. As with polls you have to look at who they're talking to, the scales they use, etc. Also things like, if their top-ranked countries are so great and happy, why are those countries increasingly turning away from the things that supposedly - according to the WHO and apparently to you - made them so great? In addition to which they weren't something the US could copy anyway even if it wanted to.

It took about 2 seconds to find this, among many other examples:

https://stream.org/5-myths-nordic-socialism-mislead-the-american-left/

And it doesn't take very long to find ample evidence that "free healthcare" in Cuba, especially if you're not some kind of government official, is of a level that even bums in the worst bowery of the US wouldn't tolerate. VISITORS to Cuba who can pay with "hard currency," and people like Michael Moore making "documentaries," are shown better facilities. But that's not where the "free healthcare" people go.

I remember some time ago, there was some big announcement by the Cuban government that every household or family or whatever was going to get a free rice cooker. Whoop-de-doo! Problems: they don't have rice to put in them, and they might not be able to get electricity to run them.

Wonder if they will release STD on DVD or BRD otherwise they will be neglecting a large part of the revenue and used to be where a large part of the profits were generated (certainly in the 90's with the release of Trek episodes on videotape). As for the Orville haven't seen it yet but judging from the trailers I've seen the show seems more appealing because it doesn't take itself too serious. And Seth MacFarlane is a big Trek fan and even appeared on two ENT episodes so that connection with Trek isn't that farfetched(and probably is what he is aiming for with The Orville)plus Brannon Braga is an executive producer on the show so there is a strong connection.

As far STD is concerned we'll have to wait for after episode six to judge whether the (hired ) continuity guardians are doing their job in making the series more according established Trek canon .And to be honest the whole rumour about Nicholas Meyer (with Manny Coto) making a Star Trek Anthology series is something that sounds far more interesting to me.

TL,DR version of part of above: It might be "a fact" that WHO ranks healthcare in a certain order, but WHO is not GOD, and that "fact" is based on very subjective measurements that don't stand up to any "factual" test or standard. The WHO scores healthcare based on what THEY think is important, but their OPINIONS of what matters are not universal.

@Nexus71: I've seen all the Orville episodes. The last one aired...Ep5 had Charlize Theron as a guest. It was a good episode. In addition to the humor, they do a good job with the science aspect of the show.

I would recommend the show.

You people have some amusing opinions of what "factual" means. But I'm used to it, children are like that all the time. Usually they grow out of it, but sadly some never do.

Poor little guy is still melting down. So much irony in his posts. Too funny. joy

Quoted for truth.

WOW what a douche !

So every one who argues opinions with you and does not concede- suffers from "Asperger Syndrome" ?????

There is no truth -just another persons opinion.
