Those of you who live in Texas would a teen pregnancy really cause this much drama for an entire neighborhood to shun you?
I was a big fan of TBBT and this show Young Sheldon has definitely grown on me, I do love the easter eggs and origins to TBBT that YS throws in here and there. The show seemed to find its own groove and then they just made the teen pregnancy the main focus of this current season which was ok but then just dragged it out all season long. Like ok we get it, the shows implying pre-marital sex and teen pregnancy is the worst thing you can do in Texas.... but is it? I mean now in 2022 isn't abortion like a million times worse for Texans?
Well back to the show, not loving where this season focused on and the finale was probably the worst season finales so far, Sheldon finally puts on a Flash t-shirt like WOW that was supposed to satisfy us and inspire us to come back next season?
I think the writers should finally have Sheldon's dad cheat on the mom since the mom's def in some super shady area with the youth pastor for several episodes now. Also think they should go back to having the show focus on SCIENCE and sheldon's genius abilities since thats million times better than his brother knocking up some chick and dragging that drama all season long.

Didn't George (Sr) already cheat on Mary? Anyway, there's no teenager pregnant in the show, is there? Mandy is not a teenager.

NO George Senior was just about to F the neighbor next door that night at the bar or at least it was implied and then he had a heart attack and woke up in the hospital. The whole family was thankful that she(neighbor) was at the bar too so she could call 911 and get him to the hospital , so no one except for George really knew what was going on.
Also I think another thing the writers did wrong was make George senior so likable and lovable, if anything the audience feels sorry for him and would probably side with him if he does end up cheating and leaving since Sheldons mom is pretty damn annoying and pretty much flirting her way into full blown cheating with the youth pastor already.
LOL You are correct technically not a teen pregnancy since shes in her 20s almost 30 right? and George Jr is only 17, well i guess partially teen pregnancy since the dads jail bait lol. Man George Jr's girlfriend the brunette was way hotter than Mandy, I wonder why they didnt just keep her and knock her up instead? Mandy looks like a discount Carrie Underwood like they couldnt get Carrie so they casted this chick instead.
But yeah that finale was the by far the worse finale so far. Having Sheldon's face and dressed up like all the characters was something you expect from a poor cheap 1980's sitcom with no special effects budget what so ever. I think they should def focus on Sheldon's gifts of science and less on family drama well definitely not for an entire season even onto a cliff hanger.

My youngest brother watches YS "religiously" as it were, he tells me about it sometimes and sends me occasional clips but I'm not seeing every episode. I started watching TBBT because Kaley Cuoco was very good in the last season of Charmed, and I sure didn't KEEP watching it because of Sheldon. It was pretty clear from the first episode that it was really about Leonard's pursuit of Penny and the various obstacles along the way, of which Sheldon was one. Quite a bit like How I Met Your Mother, actually, except TBBT stuck the landing and HIMYM didn't. People who think TBBT was about Sheldon might be like Sheldon who believes the Empire are the "good guys" of the Star Wars saga. (And yet even Sheldon would appear to want to be Luke Skywalker, not Darth Vader. Except on those occasions when it seems he'd like to strangle someone with The Force, but I suppose Luke could do that too if he wanted. But one thing Sheldon really isn't, is consistent. Or perhaps more to the point, the writing of Sheldon is not consistent.)
Viewership of a "sitcom" where the main characters actually behaved as Sheldon described them in TBBT, would be low. And Sheldon's mom is not just annoying, she's also from what I've seen not giving George much lovin' at home, she's always doing laundry or something to use as an excuse.
Mandy is played by Emily Osment who was co-star of the Hannah Montana shows, back when everyone was younger than they are now. They may have picked her in part for her age to be more scandalous than Georgie's previous and more age-appropriate love interests. It's also possible that previous actresses simply weren't available for some reason.
Georgie is not "jail bait" though, I've seen elsewhere that the age of consent in Texas was - and apparently still is - 17. And of course, as they get older the age difference becomes less significant. If they were 50 and 35, that's a larger number difference but only someone very foolish would call it "robbing the cradle" or whatever.
Of course the show is set more or less at the time you say, so that may have been part of it, also remember it's supposed to be Sheldon's dream/nightmare and there's no reason to expect it to be "realistic."
From what I hear, the main issue to come is why Meemaw (with Sheldon) got arrested in Mexico. I suppose it could be that Meemaw tried to bring back some pot along with cigarettes, or it could be that she didn't have proof that she wasn't kidnapping Sheldon, or Sheldon mouthed off to the border agents, perhaps in bad Spanish in the way which Sheldon was kinda famous for on TBBT...

Watching this show, makes me see Sheldon and his family in TBBT in a complete different light. In TBBT Sheldon 'lied' a lot about his childhood, or he just - intentionally? - forgot, or he changed things from his past to suit his situation.

Great points bro. I also agree TBBT was Leonard throwing a hail mary pass and pursuing Penny. I loved how they made it more realistic by her dissing him for the typical LA jock/bully douche bags that hot LA chicks or just hot chicks usually go for, but TBBT was good in that it was almost an inspiration for the nerds, or good guys to stay persistent or think outside the box in going for the hot chick and in the end it paid of not only for Leonard getting Penny, but Howard getting Bernadette, etc. Even the comic book store owner got a pretty cute chick out of his league in the end as well. Raj over came his huge problem and ended up dating and hooking up with a number of chicks too! For whatever reason Sheldon though became the biggest star of the show, it seemed the more mean, rude and cold he was to the gang the more the audience loved him??? I was on a cruise down in the Panama Canal and I met this total stereotypical southern couple on the cruise and all they did was rave about TBBT to me telling me how much they loved Sheldon. Like WTF? They had the full on ignorant southern accent and dressed in all NASCAR gear head to toe but could not stop talking to me about TBBT and Sheldon in particular! So would you have thought that type of demographic was such huge fans of TBBT and Sheldon in particular??? I definitely did not and was shocked!
I never seen Hannah Montana, or any of that era of Disney shows. Should I watch it? I was a bit too old for that era and felt I got screwed as all the cooler Disney big kid/tween shows came after I already graduated high school and was already in college. It seems whenever I meet chicks in their 30s theres a whole era of Disney Shows(Hannah Montana, Shake It Up, KC Undercover, Phil Of The Future, Thats So Raven, etc.) that I never seen. The other day this smoking hot Armenian chick who's like 27 said man I love Phil Of The Future I miss that show! and I couldnt say anything since I never even seen it. But yeah I think the brunette was way hotter than Mandy so I'd prefer they kept her instead. But to your point about the older lady and the younger boy, this reminded me I knew of some chick who was 16 and was in a serious relationship with a 24 year old guy and the guy thought she was 21 the whole time. The chick said on her 21st bday she would come clean if they were still together lol. But I mean how the hell would the chick pull off pretending to NOT be 16. Clearly shes in high school Monday through Friday 8am to 3pm right? Then if they ever went to club, bar, or even TGIF's as soon as the waitress or bartender asks for ID she's screwed right? In George Jr's case he dropped out of high school and was managing the laundry mat so by those conditions he appeared to be older at least. This also now reminds me of Mila Kunis , she apparently lied to everyone that she was 18 when in reality she was only 14 so she could be casted in That 70's Show.
But yeah the age of consent should be pretty consistent throughout the USA its crazy some states are 17 and even 16 right? I remember as soon as I moved to Cali my friends here told me theres a 3 year sliding rule where one can be 20 and the other 17, or 19 and 16. This was before GOOGLE so I actually believed them as I think even they thought it was accurate. Then one day in biology class some LAPD came to discuss rape, and rape drugs with us and then I asked the cop if the 3 year sliding rule is true and he said no its not! LOL But the cop said they would look at the whole picture and if the girl was a mature 17 or even 16 year old then those would be weighed into consideration as well.
Meemaw is actually one of the best characters. The actress who plays her is pretty hot for a grandma lol. This again makes Sheldons mom even more annoying since Meemaw is not even religious, or stuck at all so why the F is Sheldon's mom that way? It seems Sheldons mom is the only religious one on the show and its basically just making religious people look bad and obnoxious.

He's probably lying since he claims to have a photographic memory right? I think he does really since in the Bitcoin episode he's the only one who remembers where they left the Bitcoin due to his memory and it being over like 7 years ago. What are you most critical about him lying about btw?

Naw, Sheldon was accurate, it's just that his actual childhood wouldn't be a sitcom. So it's the show that's lying, not Sheldon.

And the old joke is that in Japan, Star Trek (The Original Series) was called "Sulu: Master Navigator."
There's an episode of TBBT where Sheldon and Raj are "practicing" working in some lab environment by being in underground pipes or something, and Raj tells Sheldon about Hannah Montana and a few other shows. Sheldon asks Amy to bring him a portable DVD player and Season 1 of Hannah Montana.
I also don't think it's credible for 29-year-old Mandy to not realize that Georgie isn't as old as he claims. He might be tall and stuff, but there's no reason to believe his body appears to be 21 (or older) otherwise. Granted WE don't see either of them naked on TV, but supposedly SHE saw him naked, and should have figured it out.
The "TV deniability" kind of thing can be a problem sometimes, and reminds me of old silent movies where, while it's true that the audience can't hear anything, the characters act like THEY can't hear anything either, which is just dumb. (For example, Charlie Chaplin walking in front of a huge steam locomotive.)
The "sliding" thing is going to be state-by-state as the age-of-consent laws themselves are. California may not have had it then, but a lot of states have adopted it. And it's a pretty good rationale, a primary cause being that if a boy and girl are "dating" in High School it makes no sense for the boy to suddenly be a "rapist" if he happens to turn 18 before the girl does. Or vice reversa.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the cop was just wrong, either. Police often don't know what the laws really are, and you can find examples of that on youtube very easily. (These days they're commonly called "audit" videos.) It's possible he didn't recognize the term "sliding" or whatever, but what he described as "weighed into consideration" sounds like it could be the same thing. Because that's what the "sliding" thing was meant to do: take into account small age differences, not just absolutes. Technically, if the law is 18 or 17 or whatever, they're not supposed to "take into consideration." Or at least it's not the police who do that, but prosecutors might.
It might also be that the regular "age of consent" remains the same, and that law itself is not changed, but the slight difference in age can be used as a defense against such a charge. And that means that a prosecutor could - and usually should - decline to prosecute if they see that they wouldn't win because the defense is valid.
I seem to remember something about how Mary "got religion" after she and George were married, but not the details. Someone almost died maybe, or maybe it was because she had trouble giving birth? Yeah, I think that was it, let's see...

It's good - or not? - that Missy didn't have any serious problems during her pregnancy like her mother, or she might have also turned to religion.

Part of my point is that it's easier to pass for 21 when you're really 17, if they don't see you naked. And the TV audience didn't. But Mandy did. Acting like they had sex a few times and she got pregnant, but never saw him naked same as the TV audience didn't, is ridiculous.
As you say, the actor is actually 19 at that point, and could more easily pass for 21, again still if not naked. But go back and see how he looked when he was actually 17, and see if you think he could pass as 21 when he was actually 17. Not even counting the naked part although I think that's actually critical in a situation like this.
Well, Mary for sure is upset that they're not married. For George Sr it's the age - he doesn't think they should get married - and for Mandy absolutely for certain it's about age.

LOL thats awesome that in Japan Star Trek was called that! Ironically I'd say now in 2022 Sulu aka George Takei is very much well loved here in the USA maybe even more than Shattner??? He's actually pretty funny on Twitter and I recall he was even a co-host on Howard Stern which always shocked me since Stern seemed to prefer more sleazy people as guests or co-hosts instead of a legendary senior citizen tv actor who's openly gay? But the point I was making was these straight up southern hill billies were huge fans of Sheldon, and one would assume they'd be turned off by a scientist or a show on science and scientists basically being condescending towards southerners like them. I mean Sheldon even said he had to leave Texas to pursue science and all his scientific goals and even changed his Texas accent to an East Coast accent to distance himself from the prejudice of having a southern accent.
I remember the episode you are referring to when they are underground, I think they were either fixing something or preparing to do the real experiment right? I don't remember Raj making the Hannah Montana reference but now that you mention it I can totally see him doing that. Well you never answered my question should I watch Hannah Montana? Is it worth a watch? I can watch it with my niece or something as she's now 10.
Its funny you keep saying if they got naked you can tell ones age?? Can you? I mean some teenagers today look like they are 27 years old! I think over all teenagers are a lot bigger than when I was a teenager. I've seen some crazy hot 16 and 17 year olds who look like really hot developed women and I would never know the difference if they snuck into a club with a fake id even if I got them naked would not be able to tell. When I was 18 I was in a 18 and over club and this crazy hot brunette who looked like Liv Tyler(from the Areosmith videos) with huge DD's natural comes up to me and says lets dance! We start dancing and then we hooked up and dated for a few years. Much like my previous story a year later when she told me the truth and said when I first met her she was 16. I assumed she was 18 since it was a 18 and over club. So basically she came clean later on but we were already dating for that year she was under 18 (between 16 and 17). Again I had no clue, mostly because I met her in a 18 and over club, she had huge natural DD's looked like a hotter version of Liv Tyler and wore all DKNY(that was the hottest brand back then). She also was really good in pretending to be in junior college the whole time, maybe just copying everything she knew from her older brother who was in jr. college. Maybe if I was Mandy's age like 29 and she was 16 it would be more clear to me, maybe not? But I never knew until she came clean to me and it was already too late. But I guess 18 vs 16/17 is not nearly as bad as 29 vs 17 obviously right?

I never knew the draw of Miley Cyrus? I always thought she was far less attractive than Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and all the other biggest competitors of that era??? So I thought maybe if I saw her show I could see why she turned out to be such a big star? I do like her one song Party in The USA, but I think thats more so the producers of the song who made a catchy hit single and not so much her voice or anything???

Miley and Emily were much younger than Georgie was supposed to be, for HM. I wasn't even "recommending" anyone see it, that was just about the TV idea of hiding someone's true identity, in plain sight. And of course the recent "Supergirl" series did the same thing. When what's-her-name put on regular clothes, somehow nobody could tell she was Supergirl even though she really looked the same.
By the way, Miley was 11 when she first auditioned for the show, and was 12 when she got the part and the show began.

I just found out Emily is Hailey Joel's sibling lol. Damn Hailey Joel went from a cute adorable kid to an ugly creepy adult. I think the Entourage movie really best showed that. I saw some other images of Emily and shes definitely cute definitely hotter than Miley again I never understood how she became a sex symbol, she like never developed, breasts, hips, booty. She was cute but in a pre-teen way. Her voice is like nails on the chalkboard too never understood why some thought her voice was so amazing????
I saw Miley on Joe Rogan podcast and she pretty much said she smoked so much that she has now the voice of a like 80 year old grandma who chain smoked all her life! She also had to have reconstructive surgery for her throat and voice too. She was also campaigning to educated kids on drugs by educating them on the safer drugs to take! Not sure how you guys feel about that? But Joe Rogan is a big druggie guy so he of course ate it all up. Joe Rogan also was praising her and saying he was such a big fan like what??? LOL
