When a show fires the one person who knows Tolkien because he complains about them deviating too much doesnt give you a warm and fuzzy feeling

So Amazon reserves a right to suspend reviews on it's platform essentially shaping the discourse. That's worrying! And who says it's review bombing? Maybe that is how the audience felt? Seems kinda like how Jaywalking is invented.

Amazon cannot fail, or else they go under with this billion dollar show and people will be out of work. So - according to Amazon - all negative user reviews must be blocked or removed - also on IMDb. There is review bombing, but the positive - 10 out of 10 stars (a third of the total) - outweigh the negative - 1 out of 10 stars. Now viewers only - mostly - see positive user reviews and so they will continue watching the show, leading to huge viewer ratings.

Amazon does not control Rotten Tomatoes - yet - but they are trying to get the audience score above 38%.

Seems like rumour but sad if true.

Well the reasoning noone knows for sure until he says himself its just hearsay from people working on it but still to get rid of your expert doesnt seem prudent

IMDb user ratings on Friday was 5.3. I was reading the user reviews then, there were 226, mostly 1-3 stars (out of 10). Then the page disappeared and there were 0 reviews. Later today I checked and there were 75 reviews, only one at 1 star. I just checked again, and that has been removed, there are now 74 reviews. grinning

As I've already noted, this battle with the users is interesting. The show also seems to be competing with the HBO series "House of the Dragon (2022-)", where on IMDb negative user reviews are allowed.

Over 45, 000 positive views vs 4, 071 negative for HOTD. So it seems to be faring better than ROP.

According to Amazon, they made the right decision when they fired internationally renowned scholar on all things J.R.R. Tolkien Tom Shippey. thinking

As predicted, the viewers for the first two episodes are ships, not stones, they gaze up, not downward - and Amazon's premiere viewership record has been broken. It's now expected to reach 100 million in the coming weeks. wink

Excellent work. It's devious on Amazon's part to just arbitrarily filter out reviews. I hope independent review platforms like this website thrive.

This is just pathetic on Amazon's part.

So do people like it or hate it? It's apparently breaking viewership records? Can the viewership be sustained or will the series suffer untimely cancellation?

Likers and haters are both watching the show. Without reliable user reviews of 1-5 stars (out of 10), one does not know how many really dislike it.

I personally will not pay to see this. If it ever came to somewhere for free, I might. I just wasn't a big Rings fan. I saw the first 3 movies (#1 got 7/10, #2 got 6/10, & #3 went way down to 2/10). Even though the books were big back when I went to HS, I just wasn't interested in them.

As for Dragon, I have watched the first episode (it was on YT for free). It was a meh! I will wait until it's done & then subscribe to HBO for a month & binge it.
