Discuss Star Trek: Picard

https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/star-trek-picard-renewed-season-2-at-cbs-all-access-1203439601/

I remember when members of this board were claiming that this show would never even be filmed, as various angry young men on YouTube had "proof" that it was cancelled...

The whole point was not about Morley wanting to use the N word on the show it was about Mosley being CENSORED BY SOME OVERSENSITIVE SNOWFLAKE IN THE WRITERSROOM OF STD TO TALK ABOUT HIS OWN EXPERIENCE WITH RACISM AS A BLACK PERSON AND HOW UNCOMFORTABLE IT FEELS BEING CONFRONTED BY IT.

Money doesn't exist in the 24th century at least not in the Federation why should he chase a mortgage the Chateau has been in the possession of the Picard family for centuries. And the house we saw in the TNG episode Family is hardly a castle and if we are really going to start nitpicking the house and estate in STP doesn't look like it is in France but rather somewhere in Spain or California.

I've seen that episode many times, doesn't it matter to you that those scenes were depicting a 1950s environment (and** it wasn't "the son of Sisko" in that setting**), whereas they might have figured that nobody would use that word in the 23rd or 24th century? That seems like "progress" to me, at least.

Meanwhile, I still think it's hilarious that BBC edited an episode of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" where Giles hot-wires HIS OWN CAR to escape from attacking vampires, because it "depicts criminal behavior."

And … apparently you also haven't SEEN IT enough times because if you go to the 24 min TIME MARK you'll also hear the SON of SISKO saying the N WORD:

ds9 6-13 Far Beyond the Stars

Perhaps the problem is you don't recognize him in the MUSTASH and because he's wearing the BERET???

What I like is how PICARD is basically also doing the same kind of a thing by showing us what TNG and VOYAGER CHARACTERS have EVOLVED into 20 YEARS later (whereas 6-13 of DS9 shows us what HUMANITY had EVOLVED into CENTURIES later).

relaxed

Wow, you really don't understand things, do you?

It was the same actor, but he was NOT the SON OF SISKO in THAT SCENE.

Do you also get confused when the "Prophets" appear to Sisko in the form of other characters? Do you insist that's still Kira or whatever, even though it's really the Prophets appearing to Sisko in her form?

Amazing. But, it explains a lot.

Here's the LYRICS to a song about BILLY JOE and BOBBY SUE who SHOT a MAN while ROBBING his CASTLE (which we also don't have here in TEXAS):

Another example.

You never heard "A man's HOME is his CASTLE?

And that it happens to rhyme with HASSLE?

Geeze.

No wonder your "calculus" doesn't make sense, you don't even know basic math.

Chateau is the French word for castle Picard's home in TNG's "Family" is not a chateau it is a maison. You don't understand French that's the problem.

No I was making reference to the misuse of the word Chateau.

@Invidia said:

You're the one who is CONFUSED … because the LYRICS were posted as a way to EXPLAIN to NEX over there in HOLLAND how we call our HOMES CASTLES over here even though MOST of them are NOT REALLY CASTLES!!!

rolling_eyes

So what you're saying is, wait a few hours or days until you finish editing?

I know the expression but it wasn't about that instead of speaking of Chateau Picard they should have used Maison Picard.

And that Philippe likes Picard is understandable he is after all a Hellraiser fan since his name is the name of the main character in Hellraiser IV Bloodline Philippe is the toymaker who made the boxes(of pleasure).Still have Hellraiser III & IV on VHS.Fun fact ;The woman who became the first victim of the box and one of it's early cenobites is the same actress who mounted a young Christian Slater( Who was in Star Trek VI TUC)in The Name Of The Rose. Also Star Trek alumni Ron Perlman and F.Murray Abrahams feature in that movie laughing

What I see people complaining about STD is not so much that it's PC nonsense (which it is) but that it's badly written, acted, produced...

That only started after they realised that the previous attacks could easily be disproven so there was a switch to subjective appraisals.

So was slavery. And it still is, in parts of Africa.

What's your point?

Actually, slavery seems to be abolished everywhere (in law, at least) though there are still slaves. Most of whom are in India(over 18 MILLION!): https://www.oxygen.com/very-real/6-countries-where-slavery-still-exists

My point is that you stated that murder is the unlawful taking of life so capital punishment isn't murder, but abortion is.

@Knixon said:

P.S. Even the dictionary definition of "murder" is essentially the UNLAWFUL taking of INNOCENT life. Which is why, just for one example, capital punishment is not murder, but abortion is.

I offered proof that abortion is legal in most of the world, and so by your own definition is not considered murder apart from in a very few countries.

Read the article Mosley didn't want to use the N word in the show. It was Mosley talking in the writers room about showing things that would make us feel uncomfortable being confronted with it.He gave an example from his own experience where a cop once stopped him and used the N word when he spoke of Mosley(Mosley is black). But some easily offended snowflake writers went to Human Resources and complained about the use of the N word when he was the N word the whole example was about HR told him he could not use that word otherwise they would fire him.Mosley wad so offended that he couldn't talk about these things openly and the backstabbing "colleagues" that he himself quit because he didn't want to be censored. That is the whole point it's to illustrate the writers don't even know what they are writing about and are so blinded by their own political correctness when a person who has been an actual victim of racism talks about his experience gets censored and the toxic environment these writers have to work in.

I think the shock @Invidia got from hearing that word being used is relevant to the Mosely story in that most people aren't used to hearing it. Though I'm pretty sure that Mosely would've been happy to report any of his white colleagues for using the word, I agree that it shouldn't have been reported to HR in this case (maybe the reporter had other motivations?). I do think Mosley's cry of "censorship" is OTT and wonder if he found a handy excuse to get out of something he wasn't enjoying.

That's NOT SO. Because on DS 9 when SISKO's son wants to purchase the WILLIE MAYS BASEBALL CARD for his FATHER, he also has to BORROW some MONEY from QUARK's nephew to do so.

And JAXDIA also plays a GAME with QUARK all of the time for MONEY too.

PLUS people also GAMBLE there in his BAR on DS 9.

The reason why PICARD would take out a MORTGAGE is because he thinks finding SOJI could lead to the RESURRECTION again of DATA.

And he also has NO FAMILY to leave the CHATEAU to.

It's always been the idea that The Federation isn't a capitalist society, and people work because they want to. This makes sense because if they have replicators that can seemingly replicate pretty much anything, what do they need to buy? "In world", things get murky as why would they need to trade so much, or have money for Quark's, or have mining colonies and so on. Of course, the whole thing started in TOS which means that it could in no way be a product of poorly thought through writing wink .

Château does indeed translate as "castle", but it's usage is somewhat less straightforward: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau

A more direct link would be the star of Hellraiser 3 being the real Dax (and later Mrs Adam Nimoy), Terry Farrell! Also Scott Bakula (Captain/Admiral Archer) played Harry D'Amour in the underrated "Lord of Illusions"; Harry D'Amour features in Hellraiser author Clive Barker's "The Scarlet Gospels" where he goes up against Pinhead. (I didn't think it was very good).

BTW folks, don't bother with any of the DTV "Hellraiser" films (5 and later). They're rubbish!

Herman's Hermits covered it, but Sam Cooke was the original. And what I expect most people remember.
