No I haven't seen it but in fairness I will post this glowing review. Since I previously linked a bad review here then is a good one. Hopefully this will offer a chance to discuss the new show with positivity. If you are anti-Picard, no need to repeat your arguments as they are well known already. This is meant to be a pro Picard thread

That is exactly how a large part of the Trek fans feel about it Rob.

I don't feel that way.

Considering the bad plot holes and stuff, it doesn't even really work as good general SF. But it wasn't Trek, even before that.

Hey it already dropped from a 100 to 79 % in the ratings.

Have not regularly watched Star Trek since STAR TREK next Gen back in the 80s/90s ; all though Enterprise was acceptable.
This new series is acceptable. If you want intelligent watch a documentary, or better yet get some scientific research paper and study them until you realise they are only based on far to limited data that has to follow certain schools of thought to be understood....only then do you have to make a leap of faith , as the ice gets thinner over time.
Most STAR TREK is crap as with virtually ALL sci-fi tv shows/movies. "Dr-Who" is fun and "The Expance" shows promise- as did SGU a decade ago. But the best entertainment on TV has to be Ancient Aliens !!!!

Why people love Picard

But all the stuff they ascribe to Picard is from TNG. It really says nothing about what they're doing with - and to - him now.
They might as well be saying "Picard WAS a favorite Star Trek character, thanks to a lot of work and writing etc done by people OTHER THAN US, and we're using that to bring in viewers while we trash him and everything else about Star Trek, just like happened with Discovery."
"While laughing all the way to the bank."

Eh, I have better uses for the time. Maybe even re-watch some TNG.
TNG AKA TOP. The Original Picard.
And even if there were no other issues, I have no use for the "Kelvin timeline" just in general.

The Kelvin Timeline wouldn't exist all because of;
a)there are the temporal agents from the 29th century who are monitoring temporal violations (which is what Nero in ST09 did)and actively will intervene to repair the timeline as per VOY 'Relativity' and ENT 'Broken Bow I&II' ,'Cold Front','Shockwave I&II','Future Tense' ,'The Expanse','Carpenter Street','Azati Prime' and 'Stormfront I&II'.
b)Both Kelvin-Spock and Kelvin-Kirk know about the future destruction of the Romulus/Remus system by a (super)nova from Spock-Prime. So they would have had a 100 years to warn the Romulans about the impending doom that if the Romulans would have monitored their star they would have known decades ahead of time when their star was about to explode enough time to evacuate all inhabited systems in a 50-100 lightyear radius without having the need to use Federation ships at all. Also if Kelvin-Spock knows that in the future he is going to meet Nero who will cause the destruction of Vulcan(because of what Spock did) then he would know to stay away from him probably making sure Nero would never be able to travel back in time to alter the past seizing the Kelvin timeline to exist. Also we know the Romulans invented tri-lithium that can stop the fusion process in stars as per the movie 'Generations' so the Romulans could have limited the destruction to the Romulus/Remus system by launching a tri-lithium warhead into the heart of their star preventing it from exploding. So they wouldn't need Spock and his Red Matter Solution.

Trilithium is mentioned in the TNG episode "Starship Mine" and in that episode it's a regular byproduct of warp drive. So, hardly unknown. Another screw-up on their part. Although it could be argued that turning it into a bomb that can destroy a star, was still a later technological step.
But the Romulans wouldn't have shot trilithium into their star, because that CAUSES it to explode, and then go out permanently.
As also seen in the DS9 episode "By Inferno's Light."
The device which could "simply" extinguish a star, was the "Tox Uthat," mentioned in the TNG episode "Captain's Holiday," the first episode with Vash. And it was apparently just a self-contained device of some type, no trilithium required.
I guess you could argue that using a trilithium bomb before the star goes supernova would "limit the destruction" and save their people if they had at least been taken from Romulus/Remus to other parts of the Empire. Unless maybe, if the star was already preparing to blow, the trilithium device would simply speed up that process. 100 years in the life of a star is nothing, the process before a star actually explodes takes millions of years.

I spoke of tri-lithium as a way to limit the danger of the explosion to one star system and not to have it effect on multiple star systems. It would stop the fusion inside the Star in the Romulus/Remus system which will only blow out it's outer shell and not end in some nuclear fusion driven explosion.
